Rehearsals will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (7.45pm) with a few Sundays (2.00 to 5.00pm)
Overview of the play:
The director, Abbe, writes: “Seventeen is a unique play by Australian writer Matthew Whittet. I really liked this play when I saw it at the Lyric Hammersmith last year and I think it will work really well at the Pump House. In it, adult actors play a gang of confused adolescents in a playground drama set on the last day of school, with the teenagers celebrating the end of their exams. This original casting quirk adds an extra layer of hope and sadness to all these wonderful characters because older actors bring their own life experience to them. There’s a real free-
Characters and descriptions:
All actors can be aged 30s to 50s but need to be able to convincingly play teenagers.
Mike – noisy and raucous. He effortlessly dominates the gang
Tom – more timorous and thoughtful. Mike’s side-
Jess – a vivacious, bright-
Emilia – Jess calls her “the frigid princess”. Thoughtful, intelligent and level-
Ronny – lonely and left out. He senses he doesn’t fit in
Lizzy – Mike’s high energy younger sister who desperately wants to be part of her brother’s older gang. She’s a mix of irritant and sage.
