Overview of the play:

The Pillowman is a dark, funny and brilliantly written play. It was first performed at the National Theatre in 2003 starring David Tennant and Jim Broadbent. The play centres around Katurian, a writer who is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a number of child murders that are happening in his town. The play starts with Katurian being cross-examined by two detectives - enter good cop and a very bad cop. Katurian is the main suspect in these murders and the threat of imminent execution hangs over him. He denies that his books and the murders are connected. Meanwhile, in a nearby cell room, Katurian's brother Michael, who is autistic, is also being held prisoner. What does Michael have to hide? The disturbing truth soon unfolds leading to the play’s gripping and chilling climax.

The intimate atmosphere of the Pump House is the ideal venue to stage The Pillowman as it is a play full of suspense and intensity. It also has great characters and is guaranteed to have the audience on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
